The Araucana was bred to retain the unusual blue-egg gene of the Araucana, but eliminate the tufted and rumpless traits of the parent breed. They are docile hens and calm of nature, good with most other breeds and are very friendly. Not known for being overly flighty and are fantastic pure breed laying hens, giving up to 250 blue eggs a year.
